General Practitioners
GPs provide general health checks, record information, orders various tests, analyse and diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments and medications.
Services are available on a first come first served basis - except in the case of an emergency.
Hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. GP services are bulk billed by Medicare.
Clinic Nurse
The Clinic Nurse provides patients with immunisations, wound dressings, pathology, ECGs, ear and eye checks, and other screenings.
Community Nurses
Community Nurses provide an efficient and culturally appropriate quality home nursing service with a primary health care focus.
The service is delivered in partnership with other health services providers such as Sydney West Area Health Services and the New Children’s Hospital Westmead.
The services provided include:
- Nursing assessments
- Wound assessment and management
- Screening and interpretation of vital signs
- Pathology and specimen collection
- Medication administration and education
- Information, resources and referrals for clients needing further support
- Education and health promotion on health issues in the community
- Advocacy for clients and families with health issues
- Follow up visits after hospitalisation or acute illness
- Follow up support for chronically ill patients
AMSWS is committed to the needs of our clients and aim for the highest health outcomes.
Hearing Health WorkerAMSWS Hearing Health Worker visits pre-schools, primary schools and high schools in the local area to screen for otitis media and hearing levels. Screening is also available to AMSWS clients at the centre on a monthly basis with the assistance of an audiologist from Australian Hearing Services. Clients who require screening are referred by AMSWS GPs or our Hearing Health Worker.
A visiting Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist also visits AMSWS on a monthly basis, and sees children who are referred by our GPs or Hearing Health Worker. To gain access to the ENT Specialist the child must be a registered client of AMSWS.
Grief & Loss
AMSWS offers professional counselling services for Aboriginal clients who have lived in institutions/homes, adopted, or have been a ward of the state and who are suffering from trauma of the past and present, helping them to live a healthy, normal and happy life.
Connections
AMSWS helps you to connect with family through Link-Up, the Men’s Group which is held on the last Friday of every month or other organisations which help in finding missing people such as the National Archives.
Seniors Luncheon
AMSWS brings together senior community Elders 60+ for a luncheon at different venues. This is a time when they can catch up with each another, make new friends and enjoy a good day out.
Excursion Trips for Elders
Now and again AMSWS take their seniors on trips to interesting places such as Canberra to the War Memorial, National Archives of Australia and the National Museum, helping them to find their lost relatives.
Transport Policy
Transport is provided to and from the AMSWS for Elderly clients, mothers/fathers with children, and to and from specialist appointments. The Clinic Co-ordinator determines whether clients are eligible for the transport service.
Diabetes Health Worker & Healthy Heart Worker
AMSWS provides support on education and self-management of diabetes and cardio vascular disease. Screening, follow-up, foot care, exercise, healthy eating plans, and nutrition information and support groups is also provided for diabetic clients. When required, AMSWS liaises on behalf of clients with other agencies, doctors and specialist services.
